Ripening
Cherries deepen from green to red over several weeks on the branch.
Subsahara Green Coffee Ltd sources, processes and exports Uganda's finest sun-grown Arabica and Robusta green coffee — ethically traded, meticulously graded and delivered to roasters worldwide.
Subsahara Green Coffee Ltd is a Ugandan-owned and operated green coffee company headquartered in Masaka City. We work directly with smallholder farmers across Uganda's prime coffee-growing regions to source, process and export the highest-quality green coffee available.
Our commitment to ethical sourcing, fair farmer pricing and rigorous quality control makes us the preferred partner for international roasters, importers and specialty coffee buyers seeking traceable, sun-grown Ugandan origin coffee.
Uganda's volcanic soil and mid-altitude hills give the plant what it needs: rich ground, steady warmth, and rainfall it can rely on. Everything from here is about patience — waiting for cherries to turn from green to a deep, glossy red before a single bean is worth picking.
Five stages, each one shaping the cup that follows.
Cherries deepen from green to red over several weeks on the branch.
Only the ripest cherries are selected, one at a time, by hand.
The day's harvest is gathered into burlap sacks for processing.
Dried green beans are roasted until they turn dark and fragrant.
Ground, brewed, and poured — ready for the cup at last.
Because cherries on the same branch ripen at different times, the same tree is often picked several times over a season. It's slow, repetitive work — and it's the reason the fruit that makes it into the sack is consistently ripe.
Raw coffee beans are pale, dense, and nearly odorless. Roasting is what unlocks the aroma and the color — a few minutes' difference in the drum can shift a batch from bright and light to deep and smoky.
“The soil does the first half of the work. The hands do the rest.” — on coffee farming in Uganda's highlands
From red soil to a red cherry, from a hand to a sack, from heat to aroma — and finally, a cup that carries all of it.
Premium Ugandan green coffee in every grade — from specialty lots to commercial export volumes.
Premium washed Arabica from the slopes of Mt. Elgon. Bright acidity with notes of citrus, blackcurrant and floral tones. Ideal for specialty filter and espresso roasters.
Uganda's celebrated Robusta — full body, earthy and chocolatey with low acidity. Perfect for espresso blends, instant coffee and commercial roasting applications.
Hand-sorted and carefully processed using the washed method. Clean cup profile with excellent traceability to farmer cooperatives in western Uganda.
Fair Average Quality Robusta, ideal for commercial blending. Consistent moisture and defect levels with competitive pricing for large-volume buyers.
Sun-dried natural process Arabica from selected small farms. Complex fruit-forward flavour profile — strawberry, blueberry and fermented tropical notes.
